Anne Meeker Miller
Anne Meeker Miller, PhD, is the
founder of the Love Language
program. Through her writing and
workshops, she shares information
about the benefits of music, sign
language, and play for infants and
toddlers and gives easy and
practical strategies for integrating
all three into the daily lives of
families.
Anne is a music therapist for the
early childhood special education
program of the Blue Valley School
District in Overland Park, Kansas.
Her preschool students were the
inspiration for her work with sign
language and music. Anne observed
the way song and sign positively
impacted the language skills of her
students and wanted to have an even
earlier influence in the lives of
children when language is first
acquired.
Anne has taught music to students
from preschool through college
levels. She received the Excellence
in Teaching award given by the
Learning Exchange, Kansas City
Chamber of Commerce, and the
Kansas
City Star, as well as the Kansas
Teacher of the Year for Arts and
Disabilities award. She was a
commission member of the Housewright
Symposium on the Future of Music
Education sponsored by the Music
Educators National Conference. She
is a featured columnist for the
parenting magazine,
Mother and Child
Reunion.
She is the author of
Baby Sing &
Sign: Communicate Early with Your
Baby - Learning Signs the Fun Way
through Music and
Play and Toddler
Sing & Sign: Improve Your Child's
Vocabulary and Verbal Skills the Fun
Way - Through Music and Play. Her
third book,
Mealtime and Bedtime
with Baby Sing & Sign will be
published in July of 2008. Her debut
album, Bright-Eyed and Bushy-Tailed,
won NAPPA and Parent's Choice Honors
awards. A composer and folk
musician, Miller performs her music
in the Kansas City area.
Anne lives in Olathe, Kansas, where
she enjoys spending time with her
husband, three sons and wheaten
terrier. Her hobbies include laundry
and carpooling.
