Stephen V. Masse

Stephen V. Masse was born in Boston, Massachusetts. The second of five children, he spent most of his childhood in Malden, where children played on streets of reddish hot top, soda was "tonic," and everybody had to be home at 5:00 for supper. He wrote his first "novel" at age 13, handwritten into a school composition book and "thankfully buried somewhere in the attic."

Educated at the University of Massachusetts at Amherst, he studied creative writing and historical biography, and was author of a weekly newspaper column, "Out of Control." His first novel, Shadow Stealer, was published by Dillon Press in 1988. When not writing, he restores and renovates homes in the Boston area, and serves as an ambassador each year in the Santa Claus Anonymous fundraising benefit. He is currently finishing work on a novel for children, Short Circus.
