Certificate Information

Most vital records including birth, death, marriage and divorce are collected and maintained by the Florida State Department of Health. There are three types of certificates available for birth certificates. A computer generated certificate ($9), a physical photocopy of the original ($14) and a commemorative certification ($34). All additional copies are $4 dollars each (except for commemorative). Standard USPS mail comes at no cost, but there is a $10 dollar fee for rush deliveries or express delivery. Any type of copy is available for records dating between 1917 to present. But only photocopies are available for older records.

Death records in Florida become public records 50 years after the recorded death rate. Photocopy certificates cost $5 dollars and $4 dollars each additional copy. Death records from 1877 to 1917 are available from the state while all newer records can be had from the county vital statistics office.

Certificates from the state cost $5 dollars and $4 dollars for each additional copy. There are additional fees for expedited service or searches over broad ranges. Records from 1927 to present are available from the state while archived records older than 1927 are still available at the local county records office.

Adoption Records

Original birth certificates for adoptees are available from the vital statistics office if they are of adult age, have a current drivers license and amended birth certificate. All adoption records are sealed and require a court order to open. Florida's Adoption Reunion Registry is available for adult adoptees, birth parents, siblings, directy family and adoptive parents on behalf of their children. Joining the registry costs a one time $35 dollar fee.
