Some of the largest and oldest libraries in the United States are located on University campuses. Many university and college libraries date back to the late 1800's and hold a huge amount of books, archives, research and records. There are also many smaller focus libraries pertaining to specialized topics such as medicine, science & engineering, fine arts, photography & digital imagery, horticulture, mathematics research, law and more.
While many are not considered public libraries, most are open to the public or participate with local libraries for inter-library loaning. Contact your local librarian about setting up a check out procedure or to find out more information on using the libraries at campuses near you.
